Sanjun Cai has worked as the Professor and doctoral supervisor of Colorectal Surgery Department in Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center, who has also been awarded as the Chief Expert of Colorectal Cancer MDT in Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center, Chairman of Diagnosis and Treatment Center of Colorectal Cancer of Fudan University, Chairman of Colorectal Cancer Specialty Committee of Shanghai Anti-cancer Association, Chairman of Colorectal Cancer Specialty Committee of Shanghai Center For Disease Control And Prevention, Chairman of Experts Committee on Nutritional Therapy for Cancer Patients of Chinese Anti-cancer Association, Vice-Chairman of Colorectal Cancer Specialty Committee of Chinese Anti-cancer Association, Vice-Chairman of Multi-Disciplinary Treatment Specialty Committee of Chinese Medical Doctor Association, Committee Member of Expert Committee of National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN, Chinese edition), and author of colorectal cancer clinical practice guidelines of NCCN (Chinese edition). He has mainly focused on clinical and basic research of colorectal cancer, especially specialized in surgical treatment of colorectal cancer. He is a famous Chinese colorectal cancer specialist.

Dr. Cai is the Chief Editor of “Colorectal and Anal Cancer” (Beijing University Press，2005) and “Evidence Based Colorectal and Anal Cancer” (Shanghai Science and Technology Press，2015). He has directed several key subjects, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China, National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (863 program), National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program) and 211 Program of Fudan University in recent years. Total research funding has been more than 42 million.

In recent 5 years, he has published more than 90 medical papers, including 70 SCI papers. He won the second prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award and the second prize of Research Progress Awards in Colleges and Universities of Ministry of Education in 2012.He won the second prize of Science and Technology Award of Shanghai Preventive Medicine Association in 2018, the first prize of Outstanding Achievements and Science and Education Information Award of the third session of National Excellent Doctor Ceremony in 2019.

Research Focus:

1. Surgical treatment of abdominal tumors, including colorectal cancer, gastric cancer, soft tissue retroperitoneal tumor and malignant melanoma;

2. Comprehensive treatment of local advanced colorectal cancer and recurrent and metastatic colorectal cancer;

3. Exploration on early screening, molecular biomarkers and mechanism of recurrence and metastasis of colorectal cancer;

4. Establishment of organoid platform on colorectal cancer, and relative translational application to precision treatment.
